Park of Music

As one of a kind, Aalborg Kongres & Kultur Center is proud to present a unique park featuring singing trees.

Since the middle of the 1980s, major celebrities have planted a tree in one of Aalborg’s beautiful parks, Kildeparken. A unique and alternative idea, the architect of which was the former managing director of Aalborg Kongres & Kultur Center Ernst Trillingsgaard. It became a reality back in 1987, when Cliff Richard planted the first tree to inaugurate what was at the time known as the Artists’ Park.

Music was subsequently added to the trees and the park was renamed the Park of Music. It was inaugurated by Sir Cliff Richard, who planted the first tree, on Wednesday 6 June 2012.

The trees in the Park of Music are either planted by the artists themselves or the artist has granted permission for the tree to be planted in their name. A stand by each tree contains a short medley of the best known music by the artist in question, which has been chosen in consultation with Aalborg’s public libraries. The stands specify which artist planted the tree and when it was planted. The music is activated by pressing a button on the stand.

Gateway to the Park of Music

As the entrance to the Park of Music, a large work of art with eight tall columns has been constructed. The structure is made of COR-TEN steel, which over time has acquired a rusty hue.

The work of art was created by two artists, Thorvald Odgaard and Bruno Kjær, whilst A. Enggaard A/S and Bladt Industries helped realise the project by casting the base and producing the tall steel columns.
